Chocolate Covered Coconut Balls

Coconut Balls

Coconut balls taste just like that famous candy bar with sweet coconut and you can add almonds or leave the almonds out. These are a staple for every holiday season at our house. The adults love them as much as the kids. You can dip them in your favorite chocolate – some prefer milk chocolate while other prefer dark chocolate. You will impress your friends and family with these Coconut Ball candy treats. I always put these candies in a small decorative cup (get at any candy or craft store) and then place them on a tray.

Prep time: 10 min
Yield: Approximately 50 Coconut Balls

Chocolate Covered Coconut Balls

  • 1 14 oz. can Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla
  • 2 Cups Flaked Coconut
  • 1 Cup Chopped Almonds or nut of your choice
  • 2 Pounds Good Quality Chocolate

Cooking Directions

  1. Sift 1 Pound Box of Powerered sugar and place into large bowl.
  2. Place sweetened condensed milk and butter in small saucepan and cook over low heat until mixture is well blended.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  4. Pour hot milk mixture over sifted powdered sugar and beat until well combined.
  5. Sift remaining box of powdered sugar into bowl and continue beating until creamy.
  6. Stir in coconut and almonds until combined.
  7. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  8. Shape coconut mixture into 1 - inch balls and place on parchment lined cookie sheet.
  9. Temper chocolate and dip balls into chocolate - tap handle of dipping spoon to remove excess chocolate and then place back on cookie sheet.

Remember to read section on tempering chocolate – this will mean the difference of your candies looking shiny and professional or dull with your chocolate having white streaks throughout. It’s worth the time of tempering. Let me know if you have any problems.
